There is nothing good about fear.  It paralyzes you.  It keeps you from fulfilling your destiny.  It causes you to not try things that are actually good for you.  Fear is not from God.  It causes worry and stress, and that results in all sorts of health problems everywhere from ulcers to heart attacks.

So how do we conquer fear?  How do we overcome the thing that we shudder to think about?  What do you fear?  This is a partial list of common fears that most people deal with:

  • Fear of public speaking
  • Fear of outliving your money
  • Fear of dying
  • Fear of living
  • Fear of heights
  • Fear of spiders, snakes, dogs, etc.
  • Fear of crowds
  • Fear of being alone
  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of success
  • Fear of flying
  • Fear of water
  • Fear of being overweight
  • Fear of commitment
  • Fear of relationship
  • Fear of being poor
  • Fear of losing your health

You probably have at least one fear on that list.  I hope that you don’t just face your fears, but you faith them.  What I mean is….use God’s word…His promises to help you overcome whatever it is that you are afraid of.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Psalm 23: 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.  Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

Isaiah 35:4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.”

Proverbs 3: 5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart.  Lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.

Don’t focus on your fears.  Focus on your faith.  Fear feeds failure.  Faith feeds and fuels your future.

Shalom!
