Buyers Are Liars, And We Are All Buyers

Buyers Are Liars dan skognes leadership development trainer coach consultant motivation blogger speaker

Do you remember a comedian named Sam Kinison?  He died prematurely at the age of 39 in a car accident.  He was known for screaming at people.  Very bizarre man.  One of his famous lines was when he would get frustrated with someone who was not speaking up, he would turn beet red and scream, “Say it!  Say it!!!!”

I imagine we have all felt like doing that to someone who is holding back on telling the truth. I know I have.  Thankfully, I have not gone Sam Kinison on someone….yet.  LOL.

You might get where I am going with the buyers are liars, but the second part of it might get you angry.  Am I calling everyone on this planet a liar?  Yes.  And I can prove it to you.

Have you ever looked at a caller ID and not answered it?  You were not busy, you just did not want to talk to THEM.  You are thinking, that is not lying.  Oh really?  Are you not telling them you are not there by not answering it? Is that deception not a lie?

I will give you another example.  Have you ever gone to buy something and when you found out what the price was, you told them, “I have to think about it?”  Liar, liar, pants on fire.  What you MEANT to say and what you really mean is that it is too expensive for your budget.  Why didn’t you just say that?  Um hmmm. Come on now.  Your hand is in the cookie jar and everyone knows it.  SAY IT.  SAY IT!!!!!

Still not convinced?  Have you ever told someone that you were going to get back with them, knowing full well that you were never going to call them?  Um hmmm. Look at me when I’m talking to you! LOL  (doesn’t that sound like your parent or your spouse?)

I am putting on my Dentist outfit and giving you an inspection. “Say ahhhhhhhhhhhh.  OK, I see the problem.  You have a cavity and are suffering from TRUTH decay.  It we don’t fix it, the infection will spread and you could look like Gabby Hayes.”  For you young people, Google his image.  There is a reason he did not smile a lot. Lies have a way of spreading infection. I am here to help you clean that up and save that beautiful smile.

Principle 1.  It begins with you being a truth teller.  If you are not telling the truth and have decided that a little “white lie” is OK, then you are going to get that in return.  You get what you give. And by the way, there are no little lies or white lies.  A lie is a lie.

Principle 2.  When someone tells you that they have to think about it, 99.999% of the time it means the price is too high.  Address their budget before you give them a price and you will both be less frustrated.

Principle 3.  We learned to lie at a very early age. Sometimes it was out of fear of punishment, and sometimes it was to save embarrassment. It really doesn’t matter why we started it, what matters is that we STOP it.  If you are over 5 years old, you understand this.  Grow up, fess up.  Don’t make me go Sam Kinison on you.  LOL

Here is hoping that we all become practicing truth tellers. The good news about telling the truth is that you don’t have to remember what you said.  Trust me, that is a good thing at my age.  LOL.

Shalom!
